28 Days Later Danny BoyleRated: R Writer: Alex Garland Date Added: Jul 29, 2007 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: His fear began when he woke up alone. His terror began when he realised he wasn't. Summary: The director/producer team that created "Trainspotting" turn their dynamic cinematic imaginations to the classic science fiction scenario of the last people on Earth. Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma to find London deserted--until he runs into a mob of crazed plague victims. He gradually finds other still-human survivors (including Naomie Harris), with whom he heads off across the abandoned countryside to find the source of a radio broadcast that promises salvation. "28 Days Later" is basically an updated version of "The Omega Man" and other post-apocalyptic visions; but while the movie may lack originality, it makes up for it in vivid details and creepy paranoid atmosphere. "28 Days Later"'s portrait of how people behave in extreme circumstances--written by novelist Alex Garland ("The Beach")--will haunt you afterward. Also featuring Brendan Gleeson ("The General", "Gangs of New York") and Christopher Eccleston ("Shallow Grave", "The Others"). "--Bret Fetzer"

Dawn of the Dead George A. RomeroRated: Unrated Writer: George A. Romero Date Added: Feb 25, 2007 Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. Summary: Directed by George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead) and presented by Dario Argento (Suspiria). This the European version by Argento called Zombi. Picking up where NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD left off, and still offering no explanation of why the dead are walking the earth, DAWN OF THE DEAD plunges headlong into one of the most violent and original horror films ever made. After securing an apartment building overcome with flesh-eating zombies, two Philadelphia area SWAT team members, Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott Reiniger), flee to a television station, where they escape in the station's helicopter with Francine (Gaylen Ross) and Stephen (David Emge), two station employees. Seeking refuge from the zombies and the ensuing hysteria, they land on top of a Pittsburgh area shopping mall, despite the fact that the undead seem to be flocking there. What begins as a stop for supplies becomes a longer stay as the four become embroiled in a futile war within the mall to keep their flesh to themselves and remain alive. The film's relentlessly disturbing and innovative gore effects are one reason to see DAWN OF THE DEAD, but those who can stomach the endless barrage of blood and gnarled zombie faces will be rewarded--and possibly surprised--by what the film says about human nature and life within a consumer-based culture. Any aficionado of horror is likely to place the film high on their list of revered cinema.

Day of the Dead George A. RomeroRated: Unrated Writer: George A. Romero Date Added: Feb 25, 2007 Sound: Dolby Picture Format: Letterbox Comments: The Dead have waited. The day has come. Summary: Chapter three of George Romero's mighty zombie trilogy has big footsteps to follow. "Night of the Living Dead" was a classic that revitalized a certain corner of the cinema, and "Dawn of the Dead" was nothing short of epic. "Day of the Dead", however, has always been regarded as a comedown compared to those twin peaks--and perhaps it is. But on its own terms, this is an awfully effective horror movie, made with Romero's customary social satire and cinematic vigor--when a "retrained" zombie responds to the "Ode to Joy," the film is in genuinely haunting territory. The story is set inside a sunken military complex, where Army and medical staff, supposedly working on a solution to the zombie problem, are going crazy (strongly foreshadowing the final act of "28 Days Later"). Tom Savini's makeup effects could make even hardcore gore fans tear off their own heads in amazement. "--Robert Horton"

Dead & Buried Gary ShermanRated: R Writer: Jeff Millar, Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shusett, Alex Stern Date Added: Jul 30, 2007 Sound: AAC Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: The writers of alien... ...bring a new terror to earth. Summary: Overlooked during its theatrical run but a cult favorite on video, this unique and chilling take on the zombie film finally joins the digital ranks with a two-DVD set from Blue Underground. James Farentino stars as a small-town sheriff who discovers that the victims in a string of grisly murders are reappearing seemingly alive and unharmed. His investigation leads him to suspect that the local mortician (Jack Albertson) is somehow responsible for these reanimated corpses; what Farentino doesn't know is the extent to which the entire town-himself included-is involved. First-time viewers will appreciate director Gary Sherman's attention to pacing and atmosphere, as well as the often darkly humorous script by co-producer Ronald Shusett and Dan O'Bannon ("Alien", "Total Recall") and the solid cast (which includes future horror star Robert Englund); longtime fans will appreciate the fact that Blue Underground's uncut print restores many of Stan Winston's gruesome special effects. Fido Andrew CurrieRated: R Writer: Robert Chomiak, Andrew Currie, Dennis Heaton Date Added: Oct 12, 2007 Sound: MP3 Picture Format: Widescreen Comments: Laugh your head off. Summary: Those looking for the next great Zombie film look no further!! This is one of the best movies I've seen in a looooooooong time!! "Fido" kinda takes the idea at from the end of "Shaun Of The Dead"(another Zombie great, and for those of you who haven't seen it.. SHAME ON YOU) about domesticating Zombies. All the remaining Zombies after an outbreak are fitted with collars created by "Zomcon" that prevents their hunger for human flesh & are then sold & kept as house pets & laborers. Sometimes though the collars malfunction & carnage ensues. "Fido" has a great wit & sense of humor, I laughed almost the whole way through. It's really more of a satirical comedy than a horror film. I love what the movie says about "the elderly". There are scenes from the movie that feel like they've been ripped straight from "Lassie". A young boy running through an open field followed by his staggering pet Zombie, classic stuff. Billy Connely perfectly plays his undead character, I couldn't believe it was actually him under the make-up. Carrie Anne Moss also does a great job playing a typical 1950's era house wife in a not so typical world. As not to spoil anything plot wise, I've really already described all that you'll need to know going in. Why didn't this get a wide release theatrically, I'll never know. This is definately one you'll wanna own, pre-orderer it, or race to your local DVD store on release date. This'll definately go down in Zombie history as one of the greats!!!

Night of the Living Dead George A. RomeroRated: Unrated Writer: John A. Russo, George A. Romero Date Added: May 30, 2007 Sound: Dolby Picture Format: Academy Ratio Comments: They keep coming back in a bloodthirsty lust for HUMAN FLESH!... Summary: We can hardly imagine how shocking this film was when it first broke into the film scene in 1968. There's never been anything quite like it again, though there have been numerous pale imitations. Part of the terror lies in the fact that it is shot in such a raw and unadorned fashion that it feels like a home movie, and is all the more authentic because of that. It draws us into its world gradually, content to establish a merely spooky atmosphere before leading us through a horrifically logical progression that we hardly could have anticipated. The story is simple: Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and hunger for human flesh. Once bitten, you become one of them. And the only way to kill one is by a shot or blow to the head. We follow a group holed up in a small farmhouse who are trying to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead. The tension between the members of this unstable, makeshift community drives the film. "Night of the Living Dead" establishes savagery as a necessary condition of life. Marked by fatality and a grim humor, the film gnaws through to the bone, then proceeds on to the marrow. "--Jim Gay"

Revolt of the Zombies Victor HalperinRated: Writer: Victor Halperin, Howard Higgin, Rollo Lloyd Date Added: Oct 25, 2007 Sound: Dolby Comments: Zombies--- Not dead, not alive! Summary: On the Franco-Austrian Frontier during WW I, an oriental priest, chaplain of a French colonial regiment, is condemned to life imprisonment because he possesses the power of turning men into zombies. As the priest,in his prison cell, is preparing to burn the parchment containing the location of the secret formula, Colonel Mazovia (Roy D'Arcy, the accented version of Theodore Lorch) kills the priest and takes the partially-burned parchment. Fade to after the war to an expedition of representatives from all the Allied countries (only those with colonial interests it appears) being sent to Cambodia to find and destroy forever the Secret of the Zombies. The group includes Colonel Mazovia (somewhat akin to sending the fox to guard the hen house) ; a student of dead languages, Armand Louque (Dean Jagger) ; Englishman Clifford Grayson (Robert Noland) ; and General Duval (George Cleveland) and his daughter Claire (Dorothy Stone.) Armand falls in love with Claire, who accepts his proposal of marriage in order to spite Clifford whom she really loves. Later, when Claire, following an accident, runs to Cliff for comfort, Armand breaks the engagement, leaving her free to marry Cliff. Further accidents, caused by Mazovia, results in the natives refusing to work and the expedition returns to Pnom Penh. Armand fins a clue which he had overlooked before and returns to Angkor against orders. After viewing an ancient ceremony at the temple, Armand follows one of the servants of the high priest out of the temple, through a swamp, to a bronze doorway. When the servant leaves, Armand goes through the door to a room paneled in bronze, with an idol holding a gong in one hand in the middle of the room. He accidently strikes the gong, and a panel in the wall opens revealing a small metal tablet. He translates the inscription and realizes that it is the secret for which they have all been looking. He alone now has the power to make zombies out of people, beginning with a practice run on his servant before taking up that little matter of the fickle Claire. Armand is not one to be trifled with.

Stacy Naoyuki TomomatsuRated: R Writer: Chisato Oogawara, Kenji Otsuki Date Added: Feb 15, 2009 Languages: Japanese Subtitles: English Sound: AAC Picture Format: Widescreen Summary: In the early 21st century, teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 17 begin dying all over the world. Shortly before they die, the girls succumb to NDH (Near Death Happiness), a "pre-death" state of absolute bliss and joy. Once dead, girls come back as a flesh-eating zombie nicknamed "Stacy". The world is in chaos. Countries suffer from famine, war, and zero-population growth because of this teenage death epidemic. To keep the zombies from returning and eating innocent people, families are urged to kill their daughters before they are allowed to die by this mysterious disease (chopping them up and leaving them in garbage bags for govern-ment-sanctioned pick-up). In a Japanese military base, some undead schoolgirls are held and tested by a scientist who tries to unlock the secrets behind the girls return from the dead. Suddenly, the world turns upside down yet again as a soldier, in a fit of depression, lets the girls free to storm the base and devour anyone in their path. Based on the popular Japanese novel by Kenji Otsuki, Stacy is a bloodbath of extreme gore effects and comedy with elements of Resident Evil and George A. Romer's classic Day of the Dead.

Teenage Zombies Jerry WarrenRated: Unrated Writer: Jerry Warren Date Added: Oct 21, 2007 Comments: See Teenage Girls Thrust Into the Weird Pulsating Cage of Horror! Summary: I didn't give much thought last night to my choice of films as I picked out Teenage Zombies (1959) off the top of my ever-growing `to be watched' pile of DVDs. Imagine my apprehensiveness as the opening credits indicated this thing had produced, written, directed, and edited by none other than Jerry Warren (he also did the musical scoring)...if you're not familiar with this auteur of cinematic crud, know that he's responsible for some real doozies including The Incredible Petrified World (1957), Curse of the Stone Hand (1964), The Wild World of Batwoman (1966), and Frankenstein Island (1981), to name a few. When not spewing forth his own homegrown celluloid stink bombs (always on the most minimal of budgets), he could be found hacking the holy hell out of imported, low budget, foreign films (usually from Mexico), splicing in his own, ill-fitting footage as he saw fit, often creating a miasma of pain for those unlucky enough to be drawn in by his shlocky and lurid promotional advertising. Appearing in is `feature' is Don 'Banjo Man' Sullivan (The Giant Gila Monster), Warren alumni Katherine Victor (Mesa of Lost Women), Paul 'Dr.' Pepper (Rabbit Test), Brianne Murphy (Man Beast), Mitzie Albertson, Jay Hawk, Nan Green, Mike Concannon (Terror of the Bloodhunters), and Chuck 'I can see for' Niles (Face of the Screaming Werewolf), as Ivan, the mute, hunchback, zombfied lackey.
